Preparation
  1. Assemble all ingredients at room temperature for better incorporation.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and sugars until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
Mixing
  1. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until well combined.
  4. Fold in chocolate chips or nuts.
Baking
  1. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the lined baking sheet, spacing them apart.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
  3. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Cookies can be refrigerated for up to a week or frozen for three months. To make cookies chewier, use more brown sugar and avoid overbaking.
